How it works

How telehealth works, from booking to follow-up

How it works

Step 01.

Book Online

Care starts when it suits you.

Choose a service and a time, then book online in a couple of minutes. From anywhere in Australia.

Step 02.

Speak to an Australian practitioner

Your care starts with a conversation.

Connect by secure video with a qualified Australian practitioner. They listen, ask questions, and talk through your health with you.

Step 03.

Agree on the next step

The next step, explained.

That may be advice, a referral, a test, a care plan or a prescription, if deemed medically appropriate. Your practitioner explains the reasoning, and it is written up in your record.

Step 04.

Follow-up and review

Your care keeps going.

Where it helps, your practitioner arranges follow-up consultations and reviews. Your history stays in one place, so the next conversation starts where the last one finished.

Your consultation

What happens in your consultation

Your practitioner listens to what is going on and reviews your history. You talk the options through together, by live video. At the end you agree on a next step, and your practitioner explains the reasoning behind it.

  • One to one with a qualified Australian practitioner
  • Time to talk your concern through properly
  • Advice, monitoring, a test, a referral, a care plan or a prescription, if deemed medically appropriate

Getting ready

What you need before you start

Three things to have ready before your video consultation.

Device with a camera

A phone, tablet or computer with a camera and a microphone.

Identification

Something that lets your practitioner confirm who you are before you start.

Somewhere quiet

A private space where you feel comfortable talking about your health.

A prescription, referral or test is one possible outcome, only where your practitioner considers it clinically appropriate.

Telehealth is not suitable for every health concern. Your practitioner may instead recommend in-person assessment, urgent care, a GP review, a referral to another doctor, further investigation or no treatment.

Results vary from person to person. An assessment does not guarantee any particular outcome.

Video consultations

Meet your practitioner by video

A live video consultation with a qualified Australian practitioner, from wherever you are in Australia. Book a time that suits you and talk through what is going on.

One platform for your whole health journey.

Questions people ask before booking

How do I book a consultation?

Choose the service you need, pick a time that suits you, then book online. Booking takes a few minutes and you can do it from anywhere in Australia. Consultations run from 7 am to 10 pm AEST, every day. Your consultation happens by secure video, so you can join from home.

Is my consultation a live video call?

Yes. Every NexaHealth consultation is a live video conversation with a qualified Australian practitioner. You talk with them directly. They ask questions, review your history and explain their thinking. A live video consultation is required before any treatment or prescription is considered.

What outcomes are possible after a consultation?

Your practitioner may recommend advice, monitoring, a test, a referral to another doctor, a care plan or a prescription, if deemed medically appropriate. Sometimes the right outcome is an in-person assessment, or no treatment at all. Whatever you agree on is written up and stays in your record.

What if telehealth is not right for my concern?

Telehealth is not suitable for every health concern. Your practitioner will tell you if an in-person assessment, urgent care, a GP review or further investigation would serve you better. In an emergency, call 000. For crisis support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14, available around the clock.

Can I book follow-up consultations?

Yes. Your practitioner can arrange follow-up consultations and reviews where these help. Your appointments, history and care plan stay in one place, so the next conversation starts where the last one finished. You book a follow-up online in the same way you booked your first consultation.
